Sunlight flickers through my sleep
It’s hopeless to resist
The dream floats all around me
So tenuous like mist
And in that quiet moment
Before the day holds sway
I think about your smile
At the beginning of my day
And now the day’s upon me
Crashing hard against my shore
It always takes its pound of flesh
Always wanting more
I have my own defences though
To keep the storm at bay
By remembering your courage
In the middle of my day
Finally enough’s enough
The laptop's shut at last
Time to think about myself
Forgive the day that’s passed
Sleep closes in around me
But there's just a slight delay
Recalling how you changed my life
At the ending of my day
The days turn quickly into weeks
And on to months and years
Facing each and every day
With all our hopes and fears
And even though we're far apart
You're never far away
As I think about the times we shared
Each and every day
