Night

I stand and watch the seaside lights 
From a distance wrapped up in the night 
As the wind swirls cold around my head
And my body longs to be in bed

My eyes stray to the heavens above
And I think about the ones I love
My life and all that I hold dear 
In a mind once blank now crystal clear

Then I smile and turn back to the house
Where nothing moves not even a mouse
And a calm descends and fills my soul
I once was empty but now I’m whole
